NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. -- The driver of a van that ran off I-64 east and burst into flames Thursday morning has been charged with reckless driving.

The crash, which blocked I-64 east in New Kent County, happened near mile marker 206 about two miles east of Bottoms Bridge.

"A 2002 Ford E-100 van was traveling eastbound on I-64 when it ran off the left side of I-64 and into the woods. The vehicle then caught fire," Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said. "Five men were transported to VCU Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries."

The driver, 28-year-old Carlos Perez, of Richmond, was charged with reckless driving.

Video submitted by a CBS 6 viewer showed a vehicle on fire in the median of Interstate 64.

Police are still investigating what caused the accident.
