RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond City Council made a push on Tuesday to help entice a California brewery to build a massive operation on the riverfront.

A special meeting of the council was held yesterday morning to introduce legislation that would give property just west of Rocketts Landing the necessary zoning to potentially house the planned East Coast operations of Stone Brewing Co.

The council could as early as next month approve special-use permits allowing unlimited beer production on about 12 acres at the corner of Williamsburg Avenue and Nicholson Street.

The San Diego area beer maker has said it will build a multi-million dollar brewery, restaurant, and retail operation on the East Coast and confirmed in June that Richmond is in the running to land the project.

This is an excellent decision, and I hope time isn’t taken away from this important meeting by those silly issues of schools decaying, the ball stadium, crime rates, and other city infrastructure degradation issues. On the upside, this is an excellent choice for some job creation, and the citizens of the East end and Henrico along the Williamsburg road area will have a place to break in and get some brew! And why that location I can’t figure, it must be an incentive/tax thing, as there are plenty of other sites in the Eastern Henrico area that add quicker/easier access to the main arteries for shipment…

RVA has he redskins cam that is a big one. I file that that was a good one for RVA mabe this one will be two. The base ball team is not going to leave a area that is on a slow rise to becoming competitive in VA
