RICHMOND, Va. — Hollywood is once again using Virginia as the backdrop to a historical drama, according to the Governor’s Office. Point of Honor, a television series about the Civil War, will film its pilot episode in September around Central Virginia.
Point of Honor will not be available on traditional television. ABC Studios is co-producing the series with Amazon Studios and the series will appear on Amazon Prime.
“I am proud to welcome ABC and Amazon to Virginia to film Point of Honor. Once again the Commonwealth will serve as the perfect palette to tell the story of this important part of American history,” Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe said in a statement.
Lynchburg native and Secretariat director Randall Wallace is in charge of the series. Lost executive producer Carlton Cuse co-wrote and produced Point of Honor.
“Bringing Point of Honor to Virginia is another success for the state’s film industry” Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Maurice Jones said. “Projects such as this are instrumental in expanding the infrastructure required to promote a strong and vital production business environment, thus continuing to diversify our economy and create jobs.”
Neither a cast nor casting call has been announced for Point of Honor.
In addition to the Academy Award nominated film Lincoln, Richmond and Central Virginia have appeared in other recent movies and television shows Killing Kennedy, Field of Lost Shoes, Turn and Meg Ryan’s Ithaca.
Point of Honor will be eligible for tax credit and money from the Governor’s Motion Picture Opportunity Fund.
