UPDATE: Twasheeka Leshay Tyler was charged with reckless driving in connection to the July 31 incident that killed Ora Mae Evans. Tyler told investigators she was blinded by sun glare and never saw Evans in the road.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- "I ran out there and her head was on the concrete," Harvie Lee Evans Jr. said. "I said 'mom, mom, mom.' She was breathing a little bit, then that was it."

Ora Mae Evans, 65, was hit by a car and killed Thursday morning in her wheelchair. Evans took the wheelchair from her Tonoka Road home to the neighborhood bus stop.

Neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in an accident, according to Henrico Police spokeswoman Capt. Linda Toney. The driver told police she was blinded by sun glare and never saw Evans in the road.

"A Toyota Camry, driven by an adult female, was travelling east on Tonoka Road. The victim was operating her wheelchair in the roadway on Tonoka Road, when she was struck by the Camry. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene," Toney wrote in an email. "At this time, no charges have been placed."

Police were called to the 2500 block of Tonoka Road, near Mechanicsville Turnpike and Harvie Road, Thursday at about 7:28 a.m. Ms. Evans lived on the street on which she was killed.

"Our thoughts are with the family of Ms. Evans as they deal with this loss," Capt. Toney said.
