RICHMOND, Va. — Expect to see a heavy police presence along the Powhite Parkway/Route 76 in Richmond today. Richmond Police and Virginia State Police have teamed up to stop speeders.

“This enforcement operation is in response to numerous complaints from motorists about speeders and reckless drivers along this stretch of highway, especially near the toll plazas,” Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said via email. “Traffic initiatives like today’s are an effective way of reminding drivers of the importance of complying with posted speed limits, for their safety and others.”

The speed limits where police are patrolling range from 45 mph to 55 mph, Geller said.

“Any funds generated from summonses issued by Virginia State Police go directly to court fees and the state’s Literary Fund, which benefits public school construction, technology funding and teacher retirement,” she added.
