Weekend Events: Fan Appreciation Day, A Jazz & Food Fest, Dragon Boats

Walgreen's Richmond International Dragon Boat Festival, the world's fastest growing water sport, Saturday, August 2nd, opening ceremony at 8:45am, first race at 9am, performances at 10:30pm, 11:30am, 12:30pm & 1:30pm, at Rocketts Landing, http://www.sportsbackers.org/events/richmond-international-dragon-boat-festival/event-schedule/.

Organizers say "Don't meet me there, beat me there", for their 6th annual St. Elizabeth Catholic Church Jazz & Food Festival, Saturday, August 2nd from noon to 7:30 on the grounds of the church at 2712  2nd Avenue in Highland Park. This year's festival blends traditional and contemporary jazz with delicious food in a Christian, family setting. The featured artists are Nickey McMullen and The Soul Jazz Page, Glenroy Bailey & Company, J. Tucker and the Crewe, Carlton Ayles, Debo and special guest and Curv Appeal. In addition there will be children's activities, and community vendors with information as well as the Bon Secours Care-A-Van with screenings and immunizations.  $5 donation, bring your lawn chairs and blankets but no food or beverages. The Summer Edition of Virginia Stampede Pro Rodeo action is back at Colonial Downs Friday, August 1 and Saturday, August 2 and presented by Myrna's Boots 'n Bits. The Rodeo features National bull riders, barrel racers, steer wrestlers and calf ropers, ladies breakaway roping and others in seven different International Pro Rodeo Association events Friday & Saturday. Fan Appreciation Day Saturday, August 2, tickets required, a limited number of tickets will be available to first come first served day of. And if you can't get in to Fan Appreciation Day try the Redskins FitFest, Saturday August 2 & Sunday August 3, 10am - 5pm, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, 403 North Third Street. A Health & Wellness Expo, family friendly activities with Redskins special guests, attractions such as rock climbing wall, NASCAR Simulator and more, event is free.

American Alligators Exhibit at Maymont, the largest species of reptile in North America at The Nature Center.  Exhibit opens Saturday, August 2nd, visit http://www.maymont.org/nature-visitor-center or 804-358-7166.

The United States Army Field Band performing Sunday, August 3rd, 3pm at Deep Run Park, Henrico, the Concert Band will perform along The Soldiers' Chorus, The Concert Band is the oldest and largest of the Field Band's four performing components. The concert is free and open to the public.
