RICHMOND, Va. — The driver who hit and killed a man as he was walking across Chamberlayne Avenue in mid-January was sentenced to two years in prison.

The commonwealth’s attorney’s office says a judge sentenced Barry Mallory to 10 years, but  suspended eight years of that sentence.

The judge also revoked Mallory’s driver’s license for one year and ordered him to pay $5,000 in restitution to help cover 53-year-old William Teets’ funeral expenses.

Teets was found dead along the 3200 block of Chamberlayne Avenue. Mallory was arrested when he returned to the scene and police noticed damage to his car.
