Rainfall deficit continues to get worse

Rainfall amounts across much of the state are below normal for the month, and in many areas, below normal for the summer and the year so far.  For this point of the summer, we need about 1.05″ of rainfall per week to stay at normal levels.  Each week that we do not see any decent rain or storms, the deficits grow quickly.

Here is a plot of the state rainfall deficit over the past 30 days (prior to July 20).  You can see that much of the Richmond metro area is anywhere between two and four inches below normal.
