Cause of death released for Cameron Gallagher, teen who died after Shamrock Half-Marathon

RICHMOND, Va. — The cause of death has been released for the Freeman High School student who died in March after crossing the finish line of the Shamrock Half-Marathon in Virginia Beach.

The Hampton Roads Medical Examiner’s Office said Cameron Gallagher died of an irregular heartbeat associated with physical exertion and dehydration.

Her father told CBS 6 News that the family will continue to look into a possible genetic cause.

Dave and Grace Gallagher are organizing a 5k in her honor in Richmond.

The Speak Up 5kbenefits the Cameron Kathleen Gallagher Memorial Foundation, which helps kids battling depression. The race will be held on Sept. 6 in Byrd Park.
