Patlan was charged with one felony count of eluding police. Lindsey was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Goochland County and charged with drug possession, Vick said. Both were taken to Henrico County Jail.

The incident began when police attempted to pull over the speeding car on Interstate 64 near Staples Mill Road about 2 a.m.

"Radar indicated the car was traveling 84 mph in a 55 mph zone," Vick said. "When the trooper activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, the Nissan sped up and fled from the trooper. The Nissan took the exit for Glenside Road and then turned onto Forest Avenue. Moments later, its driver lost control, ran off the road and struck a tree."
