HENRICO COUNTY, Va. - Camp was canceled Wednesday at the Richmond Autism Integration Network (RAIN) after thieves stole the air conditioning unit used to cool the West End building that houses the camp.

RAIN is located at 1121 Gaskins Rd. The camp's programs are designed for children on the autism spectrum.

RAIN executive director Robin Davis said she had to cancel Wednesday's camp because she could not have her 40 campers sweating in the 90-plus-degree heat.

Davis said thieves swiped the camp's AC Monday night. She said they likely escaped undetected through a hole in the back fence. Police told Davis the unit was likely stolen for its metal - which the thieves can sell as scrap.

On Tuesday, thieves stole the air conditioner from the 7-Eleven on Gaskins Rd. near the camp.

Davis announced Wednesday afternoon camp would be on for Thursday after they received a replacement unit.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
