HENRICO COUNTY, Va. - Walmart will serve as an anchor store for the soon-to-be developed Eastgate Town Center in eastern Henrico County, according to developers Future Family, LLLP.
Eastgate Town Center will be built where Fairfield Commons Mall currently sits, near the intersection of Nine Mile Rd. and S. Laburnum Ave.
"Walmart will be the lead tenant with a Supercenter featuring a full grocery offering, pharmacy services and a full selection of general merchandise," Future Family spokesman Joshua Rector said. "The existing mall will be torn down and replaced with a significantly upgraded contemporary open-air center with extensive sidewalk, landscaping, and architectural upgrades."
Developers hope to have Eastgate Town Center open in the fall of 2015.
"I feel very good about this initiative and the people are deserving of this venture,” Henrico Supervisor Frank Thornton said in a statement.
The Walmart is expected to create 300 jobs.
