Weekend Events: Country Fest, Pow Wow, Culture Xpo and more

The 4th annual Arts & Culture XPO is Saturday, June 28, 10am - 4pm, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, celebrating the diverse arts and culture in the Richmond area. More than 70 non-profits will set up shop with displays and hands on activities of arts, history, science and family fun for all under one roof on one day.

The free event features performances, special Xpo discounts and exhibitors will unveil new products, new programs, exhibitions and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite non-profit and help them get awarded a check from Culture Works and also have their picture taken for a special photo collage of the Richmond Region. Pow Wow on the Landing is an afternoon by the River at Osborne Boat Landing & Park in Henrico Country, 9530 Osborne Turnpike, Saturday, June 28th, from noon - 6pm. The free event is hosted by Youghtanund, a local, Inter-Tribal Native American Drum Group in conjunction with Henrico County Recreation and Parks.  Pow Wow on the Landing will have traditional Native American dance and drum groups, local and from the east coast. The event will also have crafts for sale, cultural demonstrations and food. Organizers suggest to come early and carpool, the on site parking is limited. Grand Entry and Opening Ceremonies are at noon, Inter-Tribal Dancing and Exhibition Dances at 12:30pm, and the closing ceremony is at 5:45pm. The Emcee is Dennis W. Zotigh, the Museum Cultural Specialist at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. K95 is taking CountryFest back to the country - in Meadow Event Park, Doswell, Saturday, June 28.  The gates will open at 11am and the music starts at noon. Country Music fans are in for eight hours of music on two stages with country music recording artists Travis Tritt, Greg Bates, Sam Hunt, Lindsay Eli, Frankie Ballard and the Honky Tonk Heroes, voted Best Richmond Country Band in Style Weekly and the Alex Hilton Band. Although music is the highlight of CountryFest, the day long event includes bull riding, barrel racing and mutton bustin', the CountryFest Playground with activities for children and adults, country-themed shopping, food and other activities.  Music plays until 8pm, rodeo from 8 - 10pm.
