Driver who hit Chesterfield police car located near Brandermill

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. – Police took a man into custody following a brief chase in Chesterfield County.

The pursuit began about 2 a.m. when Chesterfield officers attempted to pull over a suspected drunk driver near the intersection of Genito Road and Nahant Street, Chesterfield Police Lt. Frank Carpenter said. The driver would not stop and police pursued him for about a mile.

During the pursuit the driver struck a police cruiser, Carpenter said.

Police later found the suspect’s car abandoned in the 2900 block of Lake Point Drive.

Police soon tracked down the driver and took him into custody.

Vincent Eloy Rodriguez Sanchez, 22, of the 2200 block of Turtle Hill Place, was arrested and charged with: possession of a schedule I,II controlled substance; possession of marijuana; DWI; refusal of blood/breath test; hit and run – personal injury, attended property; eluding police – endanger persons or police car; and driving while suspended or revoked.
