RICHMOND, Va. — Metro-Richmond is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m.

Storms will produce very heavy rainfall in a short period of time and some storms will be severe with large hail and strong wind gusts.

The CBS 6 Storm Team says the threat of isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

Currently, no warnings across the viewing area.  We remain under a Severe T-Storm Watch until 10 pm. Strong storms are now about half way between I-95 & I-81. We are watching some storms coming up from northern NC, which will move into Mecklenburg & Brunswick counties.

Strongest storms (ones with the most lightning/hail/strong gusts) have shifted well west of I-95, from Orange/Palmyra/Buckingham. We will still see downpours/lightning & isolated hail/gusts elsewhere.

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a tornado warning until 4 p.m. for:

Southern Albemarle County In Central Virginia
Eastern Nelson County In Central Virginia

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was 10 miles south of Schuyler or 10 miles northeast of Bent Creek and was moving north at 25 mph at 3:15 p.m.
