SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – A 25-year-old woman was arrested and charged in connection to her mother’s murder.

Nancy Mercer was killed May 18.

Investigators arrested Nancy Mercer’s daughter Alaina Mercer, 25, and Christina Brown, 25, Friday night in King George County. Both women are charged with Felony Conspiracy to Commit Murder.

The women were arrested after Spotsylvania Detectives and King George County Sheriff’s deputies went to their King George County residence.

“The suspects were made aware by persons in the area that law enforcement was coming into the complex,” Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office Captain Jeffery Pearce said. “Upon hearing this, both suspects attempted to flee the area, however were located in a nearby residence and taken into custody without further incident.”

The suspects are being held in Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Detectives have not yet said what evidence led them to the women. A motive for the murder has not been publicly discussed.
