NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. — A New Kent County soldier who has spent the last six months in Afghanistan surprised his children Thursday afternoon.

Reuniting Ronald Henley with his kids started with a fake assembly at New Kent Middle School about the SOLs. Then there was a fake giveaway for a fishing trip. At that point, Ronald’s son Bryce’s was the only name in the hat.

When the boy came up on stage to collect his prize, his father walked onto the stage.

It was an emotional moment for the entire family.

Henley, who has been deployed five times, has a year left on his tour.

His family hopes this is his last deployment.
