MIDLOTHIAN, Va -  A James River High School teacher was named a "Super Teacher" during a Tuesday assembly at the Chesterfield school.

Physics and Ethics teacher Timothy Couillard was chosen by a panel of educators and community leaders for the Virginia Lottery Super Teacher awards.  This year, the Lottery received nearly 800 nominations.  Eight teachers are selected from each geographic region across Virginia.

Before today's Memorial Day assembly started, the curtain drew back to reveal a group of presenters including Virginia First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe and Chesterfield County Schools Superintendent Dr. Marcus Newsome.

Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula Otto handed Couillard a $2,000 check.

That was followed by a presentation by Supply Room Companies spokesperson Yancey Jones, Jr. of a $2,000 credit to use on school supplies.

“It's very exciting,” Couillard said.“ [It is] very humbling to know that you have that kind of support from people in the community and the state."

The Virginia Lottery said it generated more than $1.3-million per day for the state’s K-12 public schools.
