According to a news release from Sgt. Thomas Rudzinski with the Manheim Township Police Department, officers were called out to Candlewyck Road in Lancaster County on May 23 after a woman called police saying her 12-year-old daughter got into a car and drove away with a man the woman did not know.

Officers located the car at a hotel on Harrisburg Pike in Manheim Township and discovered the suspect and the girl inside one of the rooms.

Nelson E. Hercules, 30, of Virginia Beach was taken into custody. Police say they later learned that Hercules met the girl online and communicated with her through a chat room and text messages.

Police said Hercules admitted to investigators that he knew the girl was 12 and that he traveled to Lancaster to have sex with her.

Hercules was charged with attempted rape of a child, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault, interference with the custody of a minor, kidnapping of a minor, corruption of a minor and crime use of a communication facility. All of the charges are felonies.

Hercules is being held in the Lancaster County Prison.
