RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) -- It's a case involving one victim and a trio of suspects. On Wednesday one of the alleged, Jamarr Hursey was set to face a judge. Hursey was in court, however his lawyer was nowhere to be found.
Hursey, 25, was the third person charged in connection with the murder of Samantha Myers, 20. Hursey is facing first degree murder charges. Detectives said he along with his girlfriend Selena Hairston, 21, committed the crime which resulted in Myers dying from blunt force trauma to the head.
"This is definitely an interesting case," CBS 6 legal analyst Todd Stone said.
Stone is not connected to this case, but said when you consider the many twists and turns that have already taken place over the past few months with the case--it's anyone's guess on what may happen next. Stone explained why one of the accused--Selena Hairston's mother-- Yvette, may have originally confessed to the violent attack. Yvette Hairston is also said to have told investigators she is responsible for disposing of Myer's body near a ravine off N. Hopkins Road.
"Sometimes people are covering up for a loved one; a family member; sometimes there is a mental illness involved," Stone said. "Somebody may confess to something they didn't do, but usually confessions are very strong evidence."
Stone believes the confessions could play a vital role as the case moves forward.
"They might potentially try to use the mother's testimony against them (Jamarr and Selena) which could be interesting too," Stone added. "There's no privilege there between a mother and a child and they could potentially try to force the mother to testify against the child."
Jamarr Hursey's case has been continued until June 2 at 2:00 p.m.
