Deputies investigating homicide after nurse doesn’t show for work

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- Deputies in Spotsylvania County are investigating a homicide after a woman did not show up for work Sunday.

Deputies were dispatched to a welfare check after around 11:40 p.m. after 58-year-old Nancy Mercer did not show up for work at Med Star Washington Hospital, according to Captain Jeff Pearce with Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies discovered Mercer's body on the floor of her residence in the 7800 block of Eastridge Way.

Officials said the woman's death is  being investigated as a homicide. However, her exact cause of death is being withheld until an autopsy is performed by the medical examiner’s office in Richmond.

No suspects have been identified, but detectives are working leads.
