Police release description of Meadowdale shooting suspects

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- Chesterfield police released descriptions Friday of two suspects wanted in connection with a shooting that killed a former high school basketball star who went on to play in college.

Police were dispatched for a report of multiple shots fired around 12:43 a.m. Thursday in the 3300 block of Meadowdale Boulevard.

When officers arrived, police found two men who had been shot.

Twenty-three-year-old David Emmanuel-Sinclair Copeland, of the 3300 block of Meadowdale Boulevard, died at the scene.

Copeland was Chesterfield Community High School’s all-time leading scorer in basketball when he graduated in 2009, according to his former coach Toby Campbell.

Copeland went on to play basketball at Grambling State University. The university’s website indicated Copeland last played for Grambling during the 2011-2012 season.

Another victim was transported to VCU Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. He has since been released.

The first suspect is described as a black male, about 5 feet 4 inches tall and in his early 20s. He had a dark complexion and was last seen wearing a dark-colored shirt and dark jeans.

The second suspect is described as a tall black male with a thin build who was in his early 20s. He had a light complexion and was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.
