COLLEGE STATION, Texas (WTVR) – A Texas mother said she heard strange sounds in the middle of the night before she discovered a 12-foot-long African python slithering into her bathtub.

Veronica Rodriguez said she’d given her daughter’s three guinea pigs a bath around 6 p.m on May 4. Afterwards, she took them outside so they could run in a penned area.

She thinks the big snake crawled inside the home when she left the back door open.

Rodriguez said she began hearing noises around 9 p.m., but didn’t find anything. However, the noises didn’t stop and when she looked in her bathroom, she witnesses the python crawling into the bathtub.

Rodriguez said she immediately slammed the door shut, ran out of her home and then called her brother and then police.

“When the officer showed up, he came with a brown paper sack,” she told The Eagle newspaper. “I told him, ‘You’re going to need a bigger sack than that.’”

Police eventually corralled the snake, using a trash can as a makeshift shelter before animal control officers picked up the reptile.

The snake was taken to a reptile rescue facility before its owner claimed it and took it home.

Rodriguez admitted the incident definitely “spooked” her, and she will not leave her backdoor open again.
