NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) — Two people accused of burgling items from New Kent home Monday morning led police to a meth house.

The New Kent Sheriff’s Office said 25-year-old Jason Meade, of 6300-block of Hopewell Rd. in New Kent, and 23-year-old Whitney Marcinak, of 200 N. Ivy Ave. in Highland Springs, were arrested and charged with burglary and larceny.

It all started when a resident spotted a suspicious vehicle and deputies responded to a home on Newtown Road.

When deputies discovered the home had been broken into, they tried to question Meade and Marcinak. However, the pair ran away off, but were apprehended after a short foot chase.

When officials executed a search warrant for stolen property and illegal narcotics at Meade’s house, deputies, members of the Twin Rivers Narcotics Task Force and the DEA found an active meth lab.

“The DEA and other agencies assisted in seizing items from the residence pertaining to the meth lab. The New Kent Fire/Rescue and the VA Department of Emergency Services were on scene to assist as well,” New Kent Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Joe McLaughlin wrote in a news release.

There was also a small marijuana grow operation inside the trailer. Neighboring trailers were evacuated for a short period of time to ensure the safety of those residents. The residents were allowed to return after about 2 hours.
