Armed robbers force Tobacco Express clerk into back room

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- Police are searching for two men who robbed the Tobacco Express at 8251 Hull Street Road on Monday afternoon.

Police said two men walked into the store around 12 p.m and browsed for several minutes before pulling out a handgun and forcing the clerk into a back room.

On the backside of the Chesterfield tobacco store Kamal Halabi says a woman in the nearby daycare parking lot spotted suspicious activity and called 911.  "Somebody opened the back door and they start loading boxes of cigarettes in the trunk," said Halabi.

Halabi owns a nearby pizza and sub shop and says the bold, broad daylight crime has him reviewing his own security measures.  "I’m very scared to be honest,” said Halabi. “I think about buying a gun because I may need it."

Police say no one was injured and confirm the suspects swiped cash and cigarettes before leaving.

"I do like to know what's going on around where I live or where I bring my child for daycare,” said Chesterfield mom Marquinda Beamon.  She was stunned to hear something like that happened so close to her child’s daycare.  Bu she says she has faith that police and childcare providers are keeping the kids safe.

"It makes me a little nervous, but I know you have to have a code to get into the daycare," said Beamon.

The first suspect is described as a black male, 20-30 years old and about 5 feet 8 inches tall with an an athletic or muscular build. He was wearing all black, including a black jacket with a hood.

The second suspect is described as a black male, about 20-30 years old and about 5 feet 8 inches tall also with an athletic or muscular build. He was was also wearing all black, including a skull cap.
