Hopewell High vandalism is ‘worst I’ve seen’

HOPEWELL, Va. (WTVR) – Police and school officials are investigating who vandalized Hopewell High School with graffiti. The vandalism was discovered around campus and on school vehicles Monday morning.

CBS 6 senior reporter Wayne Covil, who has been reporting in Central Virginia since 1994, said it was the most graffiti he had ever seen at a school.

Maintenance workers told Covil it would take a week to clean-up the vandalism.

Hopewell High School underwent a $24 million renovation between 2009 and 2012, according to a report on Progress-Index.com.

“The facade is brand new,” Hopewell Schools spokesman Brian Capaldo told the newspaper in 2012 once renovations were completed. “It is much more modern. The facing is different and the brickwork was redone.”

Latosha_Wilson, if you happen to personally know the “white people” who did this damage, then you should be reporting it to the police. Otherwise, you have no right to blame it on white people without proof. Blatantly blaming white people without proof is called racism. If you were a true Christian, you would know this and wouldn’t be posting such garbage.

What an ignorant comment. Maybe you should be praising Jesus. How did this become a race issue anyway? Just because it has PHS on it? YOU ARE SO IGNORANT it makes me sick!

Hey kids you want more funding for schools? You are only hurting yourselves and your fellow students! The act of these careless few hurts the whole system and these people are just like people who are terrorists. Where nobody speaks out against the few who hijack a religion or in this case destroys public property and are holding the region hostage it I’d about time that people who know who did this turn them in

Go to lowes and but the IRIS SECURITY SYSTEM AND have video tape survanlance But we have school systems that do not use their camera now. Glen Allen high had 35 security Cameras yet every day we have and all hours of the night who enter the property but nobody ever gets arrested? Why

The Hopewell police need to patrol the streets and actually prevent crime instead of chasing speeders on I295.

So, I don’t know why everyone is bringing religion and race into this, but I’m just going to ignore it. Having been at Hopewell High School Monday morning I will say that the graffiti was excessive, but is not malicious. I definitely think that it was a prank. The whole vibe of the graffiti is (I should say was, most of it’s gone now) joking. It’s not a threat to anything but property value. I’m not saying it’s ok, I’m just saying it could be worse. “Big Floss” and his crew did a good number on the school. My favorite piece was “*explative*this tree” and then an arrow led down the side of the building and pointed to a particular tree the “artist” believed deserved to be *explative.* I think that we need to make these kids realize that they crossed a line, but encourage this light-hearted ness. I’d rather have that said about a tree than a person.

PHS….could also stand for Petersburg…even though there has been a long standing rivalry between Prince George and Hopewell.
