A Tasty Way To Celebrate Asian American Culture

RICHMOND, Va (WTVR)- The Asian American Society of Central Virginia presents its annual festival and you are invited! Angela Chiang, Vice President Organization of Chinese America - Central VA Chapter, shared the recipe for a traditional dish of shrimp and snow peas. Enjoy the 17th Annual Asian American celebration Saturday May 3rd  11am – 7pm at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, 403 N. 3rd St. Richmond. For more information visit www.aasocv.org . Shrimp Snow Peas

Ingredients:

•             8 ounces snow peas

•             2 tablespoons cooking oil

•             3 Green onions, sliced diagonally

•             4 slices peeled ginger

•             3 garlic cloves, thin sliced

•             1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste

•             1 - 2 tablespoons soy sauce (such as Kikkoman), to taste

•             Sesame oil

Marinade ingredients:

•             1 tablespoon cooking wine

•             2 teaspoon corn starch

•             1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste

Preparation:

1. Shrimp:

•             Peeled and deveined (use tooth picks to devein)

•             Mix ingredients for marinade in a large bowl and add shrimp.

•             Toss to coat

•             Let sit for 15 minutes

2. Snow Peas (As known as Chinese Pea Pods):

•             Rinse the snow peas

•             Trim ends and remove strings

•             Blanch the snow peas for a few seconds in lightly salted boiling water – refresh under cold water and drain thoroughly

3. Slice garlic and ginger

4. Heat the oil, add garlic and ginger, Add shrimp, Stir until shrimp change color to red, Add snow peas and Green onions, Add soy sauce, Turn off the heat and add sesame oil
