Causes of death released in quadruple homicide

PETERSBURG, Va. (WTVR) -- The Medical Examiner's office has released information on the causes of death in a recent quadruple homicide.

Early Saturday morning, the Petersburg Fire Department responded to a fire in the 700 block of Harding Street.  After quickly dousing the flames, firefighters found four bodies inside the home.

Pauline Wilkins and Vicki Ansar died from multiple sharp force injuries to the torso. Tanique and two-year old Delvair Chavis died from acute thermal and inhalation injuries, the Medical Examiner said Friday.

U.S. Marshals and police have identified Alexander Hill Jr. as a person of interest in the homicides. There is currently a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to his arrest. Police do warn that Hill is considered armed and very dangerous.

Hill previously dated Vivian Chavis, who lived at the house with her mother Pauline.

Vivian Chavis, who was scheduled to meet Hill Monday in Petersburg court to finalize her protective order against him, spoke out about the deaths of her mother and other relatives.

“I lost everything. The love of my life, my mother, was everything to me,” Chavis told CBS 6 senior reporter Wayne Covil.

Chavis lost her mother Pauline Wilkins, her sister Vickie and her niece and nephew.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned Hill lived at a home on S. Valor Drive. Detective went to the home to search for evidence.

According to the search warrant, detectives removed the following items from the S. Valor Drive home:

  • Knives
  • Cell phones
  • Documents
  • Thumb drives
  • Cameras
  • GPS
  • Clothing
  • Computers

On Thursday hundreds lined Harding street for a vigil. A memorial will be held tomorrow at Mount Olivet Baptist Church.
