Seven people displaced in Richmond fire

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- The Red Cross will assist seven people who were displaced after a Cape Cod home was damaged in a fire.

Around 9:40 p.m. Thursday, the Richmond Fire Department responded to the fire in the 4000 block of McKay Avenue. Heavy smoke was reported at the one and a half story Cape Cod style home.

Firefighter also reported that there was fire in the rear of the building and the flames took twenty minutes to extinguish. They remain on scene checking for hotspots.

Three adult females, two adult males and two children will be assisted by the Red Cross.

Investigators are on scene trying to determine what started the fire.
