RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – It’s a windy Wednesday for us in Virginia, and that means two problems for most of you.

First, it’s the pollen. Tree pollen counts remain Very High, and on windy days like this, you’ll literally be able to see the yellow haze of pollen in the air.

Typically, pollen levels are at their highest in the morning hours after Dawn, and peak in urban areas at lunch. But today, those levels will stay up all day because of the wind. Drink plenty of water and take your allergy medications! Also, avoid being outdoors today if you suffer from tree pollen reactions. Finally, shower before bed, and wash your hair, so you’re not sleeping all night in that pollen.

The second problem from the wind is our fire threat.

Three factors make today a high fire danger day worthy of a Red Flag Warning:

1.) Gusty winds (NW 20-30 mph +)
2.) Dry vegetation (just because it’s turning green doesn’t mean the soil is moist!)
3.) Dry air (low relative humidity in the 20% to 30% range this afternoon and early evening)

Please properly dispose of any cigarette butts today! Help prevent a wildfire from starting.
