KANSAS – A Kansas man about to go on trial for first-degree murder has asked to have a tattoo on his neck removed. Jeffrey Chapman has the tattoo ‘murder’ spelled backwards across his neck, according to a report on  KWCH.com.

He is accused of killing a man in 2011.

It was reported that Chapman’s defense attorney filed a motion to allow a professional tattoo artist to remove or cover up the word. He said the tattoo is irrelevant to the case and could cause the jury to pre-judge Chapman.

The Barton County Sheriff said tattooing and tattoo removal is illegal in jail.

The trial is scheduled to begin April 28.
