(WTVR) — Satellite images are sparking new speculation about Scotland’s famed Loch Ness monster.

The two images from Apple Maps seem to show something in the water, which experts speculate could be nearly 100 feet long, complete with two “flippers.”

“We’ve shown it to boat experts and they don’t know what it is,” Official Loch Ness Monster Fan Club President Gary Campbell said. “Whatever this is, it is under the water and heading south, so unless there have been secret submarine trials going on in the Loch, the size of the object would make it likely to be Nessie.”

Andrew Dixon, the man who spotted the image on Apple Maps and then posted a video on his Instagram page, told the Daily Mail he did so by “a total fluke.”

“I was looking at satellite images of my town and then just thought I’d have a look at Loch Ness,” Dixon said.

The images, which show a spot just south of Dores, are only able to be seen on some iPads and iPhones, according to the Daily Mail.

The fan club said experts have actually been studying the images for about six months.

Campbelldismissed other explanations — like a floating object like a log or seal — saying those could not account for the shape.
