Police identify Petersburg man found dead behind Harley-Davidson

HANOVER, Va. (WTVR) — On Friday police identified the man found Wednesday morning behind the Harley-Davidson dealership in Hanover County.

Police idenitifed the body as Mark P. Burns, 55, of West Fillmore Street in Petersburg. Investigators continue to work closely with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office (OCME) to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies found Burns on the ground behind the Harley-Davidson on 10441 Washington Highway just before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

There were no signs of trauma.

Investigators need the public’s help with any information in connection to Burns or the circumstances surrounding his death. He was last seen on the morning of Monday, April 14, in Petersburg, two days before his death.

Investigators ask that anyone who may have seen Burns during this time frame or who has knowledge of his whereabouts during this time frame is asked to contact the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at (804) 365-6140 or the Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.

Citizens can also text Crime Stoppers at 274637 (CRIMES), using the keyword “iTip” followed by their tip. Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
