RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) -- If you have been a victim of a cyber crime, you will have a brand new way to protect yourself against criminals.

It's hard to forget the Target data breach which impacted tens of millions across the nation, including many here in the Commonwealth. A plan is now in place to help protect consumers against a repeat of last years big credit and debit card attack.

U.S. Retailers, including The Virginia Retail Federation and The Virginia Retail Merchants Association, are teaming up to offer real-time information on cyber security threats. A collaborative effort is underway to prevent hack attacks in order to protect financial and personal information from getting into the hands of cyber criminals. The idea behind the new platform is to quickly get the word out about threats reported by other retailers, the government and law enforcement agencies.

The new information-sharing platform is not up and running just yet, but it is expected to be established in June.
