Herring: Va. gay couples entitled to equal justice

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) — Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring has told a federal appeals court that gay couples are entitled to equal justice under law.

Herring filed the response Friday with the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond in support of a federal court’s decision in Norfolk in February which declared Virginia’s same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional.

The judge in that case also imposed a stay on such marriages until the appeals were over.

Herring refused to defend the marriage ban, saying the law violated people’s rights.

The appeals court will hear arguments in the case on May 13.

Most people would be better off financially if they stayed single. This is just an FYI for those who haven’t done the math. There are thing that can make it better to be married, but you need to be careful.

I agree jim, and having been there twice, I can tell you divorce is expensive, but everyone should be entitled to their own mistakes (or success). I did not get married either time for the economics.
