HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- Five people are now safe after their 21 foot boat began to take water on the James River near Hatcher's Island and Dutch Gap.

A call came in at approximately 8:51 p.m. for a water rescue on the 4400 block of East Main Street. A man called his sister and said his boat had broken down in the river. She called rescue crews for help.

The boat apparently floated toward the 895 bridge in Henrico. The boat was out of the Richmond jurisdiction. Henrico crews called a tow boat and Chesterfield Fire and EMS responded as well.
