SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) — A Ruther Glen man is accused of leading Virginia State Police on high-speed chase that reached speeds over 100 mph before his motorcycle ran off the road.

James A. Hayden, 35, of the 900 block Swan Lane, was charged with two felony counts of eluding police, one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana, driving on a suspended license and defective equipment, according to Virginia State Police Sgt. Thomas Molnar.

The chase started Saturday just after 10:10 p.m. when a trooper tried to pull over Hayden for an equipment violation in Caroline County on Route 639, Ladysmith Road at Clark and York Boulevard.

State police said Hayden, who was driving a Honda 945 RR motorcycle, refused to pull over and that a trooper gave chase. During the four-minute pursuit, state police said Hayden reached speeds over 100 mph.

The chase came to an end when Hayden ran off the right side of the road and overturned several times on Partlow Road at Mount Olive Road in Spotsylvania County.

Hayden, who was wearing his safety helmet, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. He was flown to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.
