CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR)–The newest school board member for Midlothian was chosen Tuesday night in a special election

Approximately 2,400 people voted, and Debra Girvin emerged the winner.

She was one of five people running for the seat vacated for health reasons by Patricia Carpenter, in October of last year.

Girvin will serve the final two years of Carpenter’s term.

She previously chaired the Chesterfield Business Council of the Greater Richmond Chamber.

The other race in the special election was for Chesterfield County sheriff. Republican Karl Leonard ran  unopposed, and won.
