RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)–Virginia Commonwealth University Police will check for a variety of safety issues during an administrative checkpoint this weekend.
VCU Police will operate a checkpoint from midnight, Saturday, March 15, until 3 a.m. Sunday, March 16, along the 700 block of West Main Street. That’s in their words, and we think that’s meant to be 11:59 p.m. Saturday.
Officers will check operator licenses and vehicle registrations and review various safety issues.
Any drunken or drug-impaired drivers will be arrested, police said.
The checkpoint will include law enforcement personnel from the VCU Police Department, the City of Richmond Police Department and the Virginia State Police.
Agents from the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control also have been invited to participate.

On Monday, March 17, VCU police plan to celebrate the first anniversary of the “Win or Lose Cruiser,” a police cruiser painted as a police car in the front and a taxi in the back to illustrate the high cost of driving under the influence.
The cruiser has been parked at high traffic locations around the university since it was unveiled a year ago, according to VCU’s website.
The number of DUI arrests by VCU Police this academic year has decreased to 113, down 22 percent from 145 arrests a year earlier, according to a news release.
As part of the celebration, VCU said that police will pass out St. Patrick’s Day-themed doughnuts to students at the VCU Compass from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
