HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) — Authorities said two teenagers have been arrested for a vandalism spree targeting over 50 neighbors in a Hanover County subdivision.
The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that two male juveniles had been arrested for the spree involving vandalizing Christmas decorations and slashing multiple victims’ tires in the Battlefield Green subdivision.
Lt. Chris Whitley said in a news release that both teens remain in their parents’ custody pending a hearing in Hanover Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
Deputies said investigators were also able to obtain additional information in connection to other recent crimes affecting this neighborhood, which has been shared with the appropriate agency for further investigation.
“Our personnel maintain exceptional focus on every case to which they are assigned. This case underscores how valuable the relationships with our community partners are in helping to solve and prevent crime” Sheriff David Hines said in a news release.
Neighbor Leon Smith had eight tires slashed on two cars and his pickup, but that is not his biggest concern.
“When somebody comes up in your yard, that close to your house and slashes your tires and knock you mirrors off, that’s kind of frightening,” he said.
Jill Henderson, another resident, was just one of many who had her Christmas decorations destroyed. She said her children were also on edge after the crime.
“Every noise now, when she hears a noise, she wants to know what that it, if they are back and are going to hurt the tires again,” Henderson said.
