RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Your CBS 6 Storm Team is tracking the threat for strong to severe thunderstorms this evening in central Virginia.

Most of us are highlighted in the yellow Slight Risk region for thunderstorms capable of damaging wind gusts stronger than 60 mph. There is also the slim chance for a few isolated, quick tornadoes embedded within the squall line.

Please be weather aware between 4 p.m. to 9 p.m in central Virginia, when our severe threat will be at its greatest ahead of the strong cold front.

I expect the squall line to impact western Virginia from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., the I-95 region between 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. and exit eastern Virginia at 10p.m.

In addition to the severe wind threat, today and tomorrow will be very windy!
WATCH: Forecast Wind Gusts Wednesday & Thursday. I expect the strongest wind gusts this evening between 5PM - 10PM, commonly 30 to 40 mph. Secure any lightweight items outdoors (like recycling bins, trash cans, kids' toys, decorations, etc).

The strongest wind gusts this evening through Thursday mid-day will be in western Virginia, where there are High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories in effect:

Trucks, buses, and vans will likely have a rough time navigating the cross-winds in western Virginia!
