HENRICO, Va. (WTVR)--Henrico Police want parents to stay vigilant after a pair of children reported a suspicious person.

Two children told police they spotted a man walking a dog on Copperas Lane on Tuesday who appeared to be taking pictures or filming in the direction of the kids.

Henrico Police Spokeswoman Lt. Linda Toney said the children told an adult who then contacted police.

When officers arrived they did not find anyone in the area matching the man’s description.

The kids described him as a white male in his 20s with a dog.

Toney said the kids did the right thing and her department always advises people to report anything that looks suspicious.

One parent we spoke with in the neighborhood said he would have done the same thing.

“I will be on the lookout for any strange goings on in the neighborhood, that’s for sure,” parent Chris Hillman, said.

Hillman’s six-year-old son showed CBS6 that this is a community where even the kids play a role in the neighborhood watch.

“They want me to run into the house and tell them, and then call the police,” Chasen Hillman said.

Eighth-grader Yara Ibrahin said parents should always take their children’s allegations seriously.

“Even though they do seem like sometimes they’re playing around…if they see something, they know what they saw, and it’s probably best to trust them,” Ibrahin said.
