RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- A Virginia senator has received death threats after one of his Facebook posts made some people very upset.

It all started after Senator Stephen Martin (R-Chesterfield) called pregnant women "hosts" in a Facebook post after the Chesterfield lawmaker apparently received a Valentine’s card from the Virginia Pro-Choice Coalition.

The group wrote they were disappointed in how he votes on women's reproductive rights issues and that all women deserve access to a full range of health care, including abortions.

A few days later, Martin shared the letter on Facebook with his opinion.

"Once a child does exist in your womb, I’m not going to assume a right to kill it just because the child's host (some refer to them as mothers) doesn't want it," Martin wrote.

However, Martin later edited the post taking out the word "host" and replacing it with "bearer of the child" on Monday.

Martin said some newspapers and stations have taken his original post out of context – and that his use of parenthesis proves that he recognizes pregnant women as mothers.
