RICHMOND, Va. – Are Virginia Tea Party Republicans about to go to war with the Virginia Republican Party leaders in the General Assembly? Last year, Republican legislative candidates running for the General Assembly promised to opposed Medicaid expansion, saying it would bankrupt the state. Democrats said the “bankruptcy” claims was bogus. But Republicans promised Tea Party followers to trust them to vote NO to Medicaid expansion.

This promise kept the Republican Party unified and allowed them to keep their big majority in the House of Delegates.

But Tea Party Republicans are now beginning to wonder whether they were sold a bill of goods. For 11 years, Republican candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates have done the following: get elected on a campaign promise to oppose certain key legislation, then go back on that promise a few months after taking office.

Are they setting up another U-turn?

My new Washington Post column concludes another double-cross may be about to happen. Click here to read more.
