RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - In an effort to obtain new clues and develop new leads, Richmond Police released new video of the November 2013 beating of RVA Street Art security guard Jack Newsom.

"The surveillance video shows a black male park and exit from a Chevy Suburban and approach the guard from behind before punching, kicking and robbing him," Richmond Police wrote in an email. "The vehicle, probably from the 2006 or 2007 model year, is dark in color, possibly dark blue."

The crime happened about 11 p.m. on November 23 in the 2400 block of West Cary Street. The attacker stole Newsom's wallet and cash, police said.

Newsom, 68, has recovered from being black and blue in a late night beating and robbery last year, but the attack has taken a psychological toll that he says will scar him for the rest of his life.

"Wait ‘til summer for the weather to warm up, get a job,” Newsom said Tuesday.  No more security guard? I asked.  “Oh no,” he said, laughing.

Organizers of the RVA Street Art Festival presented Newsom an $8,000 check last month. The money was crowd sourced to help the 66-year-old security guard recover from the attack.

"This person is still out there,” said Richmond Det. Joseph Fultz.  “From what we've found in this investigation, we've determined it's more than likely something he's done before and will do again."

Police tell CBS-6 they held off on releasing the video until they could make enhancements to see the attacker's vehicle better.

Police hope seeing the video will trigger the memory of someone watching and they'll call in the key tip.

"Maybe they’ll recognize the vehicle from the streets or the corner store,” said Fultz.  “If that happens, we will be a lot closer to solving this case."

Beaten down and robbed for 60 bucks, Newsom is begging the public to take a good look.  He doesn't want anyone else to have to look like this or worse.

"I just hope they get enough information to find and catch this guy," he said.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Detective Joe Fultz at 804-363-8914 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
