Trucker driver charged after I-295 Henrico crash

UPDATE: “The driver of the tractor-trailer, James A. Vega, 31, of Mechanicsville, was charged with following too close. Everyone was wearing their safety belts,” according to Sgt. Molnar. “The two right lanes of Interstate 295 northbound are closed to allow for the continued clean-up and removal of the tractor-trailer.”

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – The right lane of Interstate 295 north near Pole Green Road in Hanover remains closed for clean-up after a Monday morning crash,  Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Molnar wrote in an email.

“Shortly before 7:30 a.m. this morning, state police responded to the scene after the driver of a 2012 International Tractor-Trailer rear-ended a 2013 Toyota Highlander,” he said. “After the impact, both vehicles ran off the right side of the roadway. The tractor-trailer then overturned onto the passenger side. There are no reported injuries. The tractor-trailer is loaded with lumber.”

Earlier Monday, multiple accidents closed lanes on Interstate 295 near Chamberlayne Rd. in Henrico County, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation’s website.

  • I-295N at MM 41.0 — On I-295 at mile marker 41 in the County of Henrico, motorists can expect potential delays due to a tractor trailer accident. The north right lane and right shoulder are closed.

  • I-295S at MM 42.0 –  On I-295 at mile marker 42 in the County of Henrico, motorists can expect potential delays due to a multi-vehicle accident. The south right lane and right shoulder are closed.
