WEST WYOMING, Penn. (WNEP) -- Winter brought out the creativity in one Pennsylvania teen who decided to build something more than your average snowman.

Dave Granteed's creation is 20 feet tall and more three times as tall as Dave.

Dave said he has been working on the snowman for five days and has been spending about 13 hours a day on the creation.

“The first day I worked until about 2 a.m., and that finished the bottom ball,” Dave said.

To make the rest of the snow giant, Dave had to have snow trucked in. Even the borough of West Wyoming chipped in with a truck full of excess snow. That's when Dave realized a project this big wouldn't be easy.

“Second ball we did everything from scaffolding to ladders,” he said. “Third ball, I actually made steps up the head of the snowman.”

Dave, who named the snowman "Chuck," said he used a traffic cone for the nose and  black dishes for the buttons.

The head of the snowman is hollow and Dave climbs up into the head and watches the reactions of people who drive by.

There's also a lot of work to do just to maintain this Sasquatch of snow. Dave applies new snow every day, and keeps putting water on it every morning. That keeps Chuck icy and solid.

The project is something Dave said he wanted to accomplish before he passed his next big milestone.

“I turn 20 on Valentine's Day, so I figured I needed on last big enjoyment before I leave the teens,” he said.

And he’s not done. Next year, Dave hopes to build a snowman 40 feet tall.
