CHESTERFIELD, Va (WTVR) - Four Chesterfield Police officers were placed on administrative leave following a Sunday night shooting outside a home in the 400 block of Pocono Drive, off Midlothian Turnpike.

The officers are on leave pending the outcome of a police investigation into the shooting.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance between a man and a woman at the home. The woman told officers the man pointed a gun at her during an argument, police said.

While attempting to make contact, the man came out of the home and pointed a gun at officers, who then shot him, police said.  Witness said that 8-10 police officers surrounded the home prior to the shooting, and could be heard shouting "put down your weapon."

The man was taken by ambulance to VCU Medical Center. The extent of his injuries are unknown.

The woman involved in the incident was able to make it safely to a neighbor's house before the shooting.

Neighbors told CBS 6 reporter Jake Burns there had been a history of problems at the home in question. They said police had been called to the home "several times" in the past, including for multiple incidents involving guns.
