HANOVER Va. (WTVR)–A group of students at Kersey Creek Elementary School in Mechanicsville have placed as finalists in a contest, that if they win, will bring $10,000 to the school to use towards an educational garden.

Students created a three minute video on the importance of trees, to themselves, their school, and their community.

Scotties Tissues, who claims to plant three trees per every one tree they use, launched the Trees Rock! contest and will be providing multiple prize packs to students.

Here’s the video the kids created:

“Kersey Creek is a recognized ‘Virginia Naturally’ school,” according to Garden Coordinator, Krista Loucas.  “This means that for the last seven years our school has been recognized for maintaining and continuing efforts that increase environmental awareness.”

The students have built a garden where kids learn about the environment in the outdoor classroom. With the grand prize money, the students hope to expand the garden and grow enough vegetables to feed the school.

You can help the “caring comets” win by voting once a day, until the end of the day Feb. 14.
