In Celebration of Black History Month, Virginia State University Gospel Chorale performs Sunday, February 9th, 4 pm at Third Street Bethel AME Church, 614 North 3rd Street, Downtown Richmond. The group has performed at the Vatican Christmas Concert 2001 & 2014, for the President’s 2008 Inauguration and in Switzerland, Romania and Hungary and now for a Richmond Audience. The Hanover Heritage Alliance and HHHunt Corporation are hosting a public memorial and educational event to honor Enslaved African-Americans buried on the Timberlake property, a farm where the Rutland community sits today. The slave burial site at Rutland, now a mixed-use community in Mechanicsville, is an important piece of African-American History in Hanover County. Remains of 57 enslaved Africans are reinterred in a special memorial garden in front of the relocated Rutland House. The memorial is Sunday, February 9th at 5pm, it features One Voice Chorus, a presentation from an Abraham Lincoln historical actor and educational information about the slavery legacy in Hanover. Open Call Sunday, February 9th, from 1 – 4pm for AMC Television Series, “TURN”, currently filming in Richmond and is searching for men between the ages of 18 & 40, who are thin to average build to play background performers, and long hair is a plus but not a must. The show takes place during the Revolutionary War. Open call is at 4300 Carolina Avenue, near the Richmond International Raceway off East Laburnum Avenue. No experience necessary but must have availability, transportation and a positive attitude. Episodes shoot Monday – Friday through March 2014.
